It’s been a long wait. The refurbished Tinside Lido in Plymouth will be open on Saturday 24th May.

Regularly voted one of Europe’s top outdoor pools, not that long ago it was considered for demolition and saved by a people’s campaign.

There’s a new cafe, sundeck and accessible community spaces, including for dogs. A swim is £6.30 if you live in Plymouth, £10 if you don’t.

Cherry Poppin and the pride of Torbay

It’s a protest for equal rights and respect but one full of love and peace.

That’s the spirit of Torbay Pride, the largest LGBTQ+ event in the English Riviera.

MARCH AND PARTY: The parade commences at 12 noon on Saturday 14th June from Princess Gardens on Torbay Road, Torquay, and proceeds to Torre Abbey meadows.

Walk with llamas on Dartmoor

How about a unusual walk, leading a llama or an alpaca as you enjoy the rugged Dartmoor landscape, stopping for a cream tea or a pasty?

Woolacombe silent disco beach clean

Looking for something different to do on a Sunday? Help the environment by cleaning a beach and boogeying on down at the same time.

The clever rangers at the National Trust have hit the spot with the public by providing all the disco equipment for volunteers helping achieve a plastic free Woolacombe.

WHEN: 1pm to 2.30pm, Sunday 25th May. Also Sunday 29th June and on the last Sunday of every month until November. Times differ according to tides.

Tragic times at Torre Abbey gardens

Nothing beats the atmosphere of outdoor theatre, particularly as night falls for those dark tragic tales like Macbeth.

Torquay gets a treat from the esteemed Duke’s Theatre Company, with their bold and modern take on this delicious tale of ambition, murder, and madness.

Not surprising then that director Robert Shaw goes big on how the characters (7 actors playing multiple roles) descend into insanity.

VENUE: Torre Abbey Gardens, Torquay

Devon Curiosities #58: Becky Falls

Becky Falls is a beautiful and natural 70ft waterfall over granite boulders and several smaller similar falls on the Becka Brook, a tributary of the River Bovey.

Walk around the woodland park with trails, and see all the waterfalls. Enjoy crafts and a children’s zoo where you can feed animals.

TIP: Visit after heavy rainfall for the most spectacular performance.

HISTORY: Originally known as Becka Falls the name was changed in the 1940s, according to Wikipedia, when it became a tourist attraction.
