Jousting with the Knights of Albion in Exeter

For one day only, see the Knights of Albion as they perform in a jousting tournament at Powderham Castle, Exeter on Sunday 20th August.

Follow the story of King Arthur, the true King of the Britons, as he pulls the sword from the stone, then together with Sir Lancelot battles enemies Morgana and Vortigern.

With breathtaking jousting displays (video), original storylines, movie-quality armour and colourful costumes, the Knights of Albion push out all the stops to make their show something different.

Using professional stunt riders, jousters, acrobats and musicians, with trick-trained Spanish and Friesian horses, the Knights bring medieval England to life.

Jousting takes place at 12pm and 3pm.

Tickets include entry to the castle and grounds. Adult £14.95, U5 to U16 £10.95.

Gone fishin’ in Ilfracombe for a holiday treat

If you’re after snagging a ray, conger, tope or bass, Ilfracombe’s a good bet with trips to deep sea fishing grounds all year round.

Professional fishing boat skippers offer trips for beginners and experienced anglers. Wild Frontier Charters provides trips from 2 hours to 10 hours on a large modern catamaran.

Rods bait and tackle are included as is novice tuition.

Blue Fin Charters offers 1.5 hr, 2 hr, 4 hr or 8 hr deep sea fishing all year round with costs ranging from £20 to £75 per person.

Tuition is included and child friendly trips are available. The Blue Fin boat has undercover seating and can carry 12 passengers.

Think you’re tough? Step forward for Mission Unbreakable!

It’s a bigger, tougher course for this year’s Mission Unbreakable commando challenge in North Molton.

Not your typical “mud run” (video), say organisers raising money for North Devon Hospice.

Designed with 2.4 Commando Royal Engineer Regiment from RMB Chivenor, the 10K course is filled with tough hurdles including monkey bars, deep cold water and big climbing obstacles.

You can be part of it on Sunday 15th October, 9am to 4pm at the North Molton Sports Ground, EX36 3HG.

Entries are £45 plus a commitment to raise £60 sponsorship. Open to anyone over 18.

Swim, dive, climb and explore your way along the coastline

🌊 Scale cliffs, dive into the sea, explore caves and crevices as you jump from rock to rock. This is coasteering, an outdoor experience not for the faint hearted.

Coasteering is a mixture of scrambling, sea-level cliff jumping and wild swimming, an all-round activity to get hearts racing and friends bonding.

No previous experience is required except being a confident swimmer, so coasteering is great for people of all ages and abilities from 8+.

It’s popular for stag and hen events, staff days out and birthday parties.

Go coasteering in North Devon with Rock and Rapid Adventures (South Molton) and Coastal Adventures (Ilfracombe) and in South Devon with Rock Solid Coasteering (Torquay) and Adventure South (Salcombe).

Wetsuits, buoyancy aids and helmets are usually provided as part of the package.

Here’s to the glory days of motoring at Brixham Classic Car and Motorcycle Show

Get ready to step back in time and experience the glory days of motoring at the picturesque Lupton House in Churston, Devon.

From American muscle cars and hot rods to vintage vehciles and motorcycles, grab a drink and amble around this memorable event on Sunday 10th September, 11am to 4pm.

Entrance fees for exhibitors of pre 2000 cars, small commercials and motorcycles is £5 per vehicle including all passengers.

Tickets must be purchased in advance. Owners of younger vehicles please contact the organisers first.

Entry free. Voluntary donations. All proceeds to Lupton House and other local charities.
