Live music nights with tunes you know and love
My pick of autumn and winter gigs 02.10.25
The musicians are back indoors after playing the festivals. Instead of sitting on the grass you can hear them from a comfy theatre seat.
With a time machine and a bigger wallet, these are the ones I’d see.
It’s mostly original artists, all-time greats and there’s buckets of nostalgia.
Tell me what you like best in the Member Poll below.
Enjoy!
Yours in Devon,

Devon Curiosities #78: The Devil’s Stone, Shebbear
A giant boulder sits in a North Devon village and nobody knows how it got there.
Every November 5th when everyone else is watching fireworks and burning Guys, Shebbear folk are performing an important rock ritual.
For this is the Devil’s Stone, six feet long and four feet wide, weighing about a ton, and they have to turn it or bad things will happen!
THE LEGEND: The stone was dropped by St Michael on the Devil and needs to be turned each year to flush him out from underneath. Otherwise, the crops will fail.
TODAY: Obviously this is a great excuse to have a party. Something different from what everyone else is doing.
Morris dancers turn up, the church bells are rung out of sync for fun, and there’s food and drink at the nearby Devil’s Stone Inn across the square.
What’s odd? There’s another similar and even bigger stone just up the road. That one seems benign but nothing the likes of either of them can be found anywhere in North Devon.
