Plymouth pirates and their “enemies” on the Barbican.
Strap On Your Eye Patches For Seafaring Fun! Enjoy Pirate Weekends in Brixham and Plymouth, 20-21 May
🏴 ☠️ It’s time to get out your pirate accents and start yo-ho-ho-ing. Enjoy a weekend of swashbuckling inspired by the high seas and explore a treasure trove of free activities for all the family.
In Plymouth a free programme takes place across the Barbican, Sutton Harbour and the Royal William Yard venues on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st May from 10am to 4pm.
Listen and watch performances from 13 sea shanty bands, including the 45-strong mixed voice Great Sea Choir, follow a pirate treasure trail, and hear The Drake Corps of Drums rattle out their rhythms. For the kids there’s a pirate colouring wall, a Jack Sparrow lookalike, and lessons in making your own sea biscuits.
Two tall ships will be moored in the Barbican for maritime heritage lovers. Olga is an original Bristol Channel pilot cutter, built in 1909, and Pilgrim of Brixham is the oldest surviving Brixham trawler, built and rigged in the port in 1895.

Experience the Thrill of Coasteering: Dive, Climb, and Explore Your Way Along the Coastline
🌊 Scale giant cliffs, dive into the sea, explore caves and crevices and feel free as a bird as you jump from cliff to cliff, rock to rock and land to sea. This is coasteering, an exhilarating experience not for the faint hearted.
Coasteering is a mixture of scrambling, sea-level cliff jumping, wild swimming and hiking, a good all-round activity to get hearts racing and friends bonding.
No previous experience is required except being a confident swimmer, so coasteering is ideal for people of all ages and abilities from 8+ and is popular for stag and hen events, staff days out and birthday parties.
Go coasteering in North Devon with Rock and Rapid Adventures (South Molton) and Coastal Adventures (Ilfracombe) and in South Devon with Rock Solid Coasteering (Torquay) and Adventure South (Salcombe).
Wetsuits, buoyancy aids and helmets are usually provided as part of the package. Prices are around £40 per person for 2.5 hours.

See An All-Male Cast Perform Outdoors In Shakespeare’s Tale of Two Lovers
💔 A boy and girl fall madly in love despite their feuding families. Defying intense opposition they secretly marry, but happiness is short-lived. A fatal misunderstanding leads to drastic decisions with devastating consequences. Themes of love, fate, and the destructive nature of hatred run through one of Shakespeare’s most famous plays.
This outdoor, all male cast performance of Romeo and Juliet by The Lord Chamberlain’s Men continues in all but the very worst weather, say the organisers.
Bring low-backed chairs and a picnic, and check the weather in case you need waterproofs. Wednesday 28th June 7pm (gates open 6pm).
The Private Garden, Dartington Hall, Totnes TQ9 6EL | Tickets Adult £20. Child £12.
