Entertainment with a twist

The Trotters are back!
Stick a pony in your pocket! Only Fools and Horses The Musical is coming to Plymouth after 4 years in the West End.
Featuring Del Boy, Rodney, Grandad, Cassandra, Raquel, Boycie, Marlene, Trigger, and Denzil, played by new young actors.
Comic Paul Whitehouse is a co-author of the script which includes 20 songs, some written by Chas ‘n Dave.
As the marketing says: “Only a 42 carat plonker would miss it!”
Watch a trailer.
Monday 19th to Saturday 24th May. Theatre Royal. Tickets: from £33

Quadrophenia Mod Ballet
The iconic rock album and classic film has found a new form in ballet.
A rich, orchestral version of The Who album of 1973 is the backdrop to the show.
It’s dance, but the mythology and themes of the 1970s are still there: sharp suits, soul music, vespas, parkas, lost youth and rebellion.
Watch a trailer.
Wednesday 28th May to Sunday 1st June. Theatre Royal. Tickets: from £22

Tim Minchin, incomparable all-round fun
Singer-songwriter, pianist, comedian, actor, musical-theatre composer-lyricist and soft-hearted provocateur. And that’s just a few of his talents.
Tim Minchin is at Plymouth Pavilions with an ironically titled show called Songs The World Will Never Hear.
Audiences get songs and stories delivered with wit and honesty, looking back on his 20 year career that started as a pianist.
Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th June. Plymouth Pavilions. Tickets: from £46

Outdoor comedy at Powderham Castle
Frank Skinner tops one of 3 bills in this outdoor comedy festival just announced for Exeter in September.
You can also see Russell Cane, Joel Dommett, Gary Delaney, Kane Brown, Jen Brister, and others across three shows: Friday evening, Saturday afternoon and evening.
Get the vibes from this video.
Friday 18th and Saturday 19th September. Powderham Castle, Exeter. Tickets: from £30.25

Original prints inspired by water and nature (20% off for Mother’s Day)
[Partner promotion]* Artist Megan Hall had her first salt water swim in 2018 and has never looked back.
The experience brought together her creativity and love of the outdoors and, despite no experience as an printmaker or artist, nudged her to start something new.
In her limited edition prints the Devon artist captures the connections we have to water and the emotions they bring.
They make a perfect Mother’s Day gift. Claim 20% off and free postage using the code GODEVON with Flotsam Prints.

Hamlet as told by Sh*t-Faced Shakespeare
They promise to stomp all over one of the greatest dramatic works ever written.
One cast member is either inebriated or pretending to be.
With this handicap, Sh*t-Faced Shakespeare turns Hamlet into a jibbering wreck of a play about a privileged whiny lad who goes a bit bonkers and does some stabbings.
The company have been going 15 years proudly boasting they survived a zero-review from The Times, so they must be doing something right.
Watch them in action (Much Ado About Nothing).
Friday 10th October. Exmouth Pavilions. Tickets: from £24
Saturday 18th October. Exeter Corn Exchange. Tickets: £26

Devon Curiosities #48: Exeter Aquaducts
They are narrow, dark, exciting, and the only ones in Britain.
Exeter's Aqueducts, also know as the Underground Passages, were built to house pipes that brought clean drinking water into the medieval city, and have somehow survived down the years.
FUN FACTS: The pipes were deliberately run through tunnels for easy access to avoid having to dig up the roads when they leaked. Guided tours have been taking place for nearly 100 years.
ENTRANCE: In Paris Street, in the Princesshay shopping quarter.
A tour includes a 10 min film, 25 min underground tour, and entry to the exhibition.
Tickets: Adult: £9, senior £7, child £6, family £25
