Cool Things to Do 22.01.26

I’ll admit it, a winter break is a guilty pleasure of mine.

You asked for more offers, so I’ve teamed up with North Devon Resort in Ilfracombe to bring you an indulgent special deal after my own heart.

They’re offering 25% savings on January and February breaks (conditions apply) many with a range of pet-friendly and accessibility options.

See below for more and visit their website to find the right deal for you.

P.S. The Arts & Craft special edition has been delayed, but you can check out no less than 24 crafty workshops coming up on the North Devon and South Devon listings pages.

Bunch of jokers

Bunch of jokers at the football club

No not the players, the risque comedy returning to Exeter City FC football stadium next month.

The promoters promise raw and unfiltered stand-up (not for the easily offended) with “no filler, no-fluff, just laughs that don’t quit.”

No pressure on the comedians then. More details.

7.30pm, Friday 6th February, Exeter City FC. Laugh passes: from £11.55

Go behind the scenes at the Queen’s Theatre

Ever wondered what happens backstage at the Queen’s Theatre, Barnstaple?

You can find out with a 1-hour tour of everything from the dressing rooms to the wings.

Hear the history and see the hidden workings that bring productions to life.

11am, Thursday 19th February | 3pm, Wednesday 17th June 5pm, Thursday 29th October.

Tickets: £10

The guilty pleasure of a winter hot tub break

[Partner Offer] Tempting thought isn’t it? Coastal winter break, handy for the SW Coast Path and all the other natural beauty of North Devon and Exmoor.

I’m thinking brisk walks with a sea or moorland view, picnic lunch or afternoon tea out, then back to base for a nice hot soak.

North Devon Resort in Ilfracombe has hot tub residences, regular rooms, studios and apartments all on special offer in January and February.

  • Choose from pet-friendly, pet-free, sea view and easy access (accessible bathrooms, ramps and close-up parking).

  • Plus an indoor heated pool, sauna, treatment room, soft play, play zone, café, restaurant and bar.

The deal is a simple and generous 25% off all bookings. Check them out here.

Dewer, the devil of Dartmoor

Two theatremakers from London travel to Dartmoor to write a play about the devil of the moor. The devil is called Dewer and so is the play. You can see it next month.

Expect some rich and edgy content from local writer Ruby Sage McGowan with sexual themes, abuse, death and the religious and occult.

More I cannot tell you, except for one quote released by the producers:

“I can feel him. Inside me. I can feel him moving outwards.”

Intrigued?

7pm to 9pm, Saturday 28th February, Scoriton Village Hall, near Buckfastleigh. Tickets: £10

A sensory, sacred, space of sweetness

Mix cacao and essential oils and get…the food of love!

That’s according to Nisha Toppin, the essential oil goddess, who’s running a chocolate-making workshop with a difference.

In the “sacred, sensory space of sweetness” you’ll learn the craft of making vegan treats infused with essential fragrances.

  • Start with sipping Peruvian ceremonial cacao kissed with lavender oil

  • Create 3 different chocolate recipes with wild orange, peppermint, and cardamom

  • Take your chocolate home!

10am to 1pm, Friday 6th February, Dartington Hall Estate. Tickets: £25

Your invite to Blackbeard's Tea Party

They’re a lively bunch, as you can see.

Folk-rock rebels Blackbeard’s Tea Party have been whooping it up for more than 10 years now. Here’s your chance to see them at the Barbican Theatre, Plymouth.

  • They’ll be playing a selection from their Reprobates Album, stories about villains from history.

  • Fans call them “convincing and essential” and “unforgettable and exceedingly invigorating”.

Why not give them and the Barbican Theatre your support?

8pm, Friday 27th February. Tickets: £17

Roger said: “Familiarity and comfort from the ones I was alive to see in the cinema when they were released. Is Star Wars an old film? 1977. Ones released before I was born star the big names of bygone times, watched as a child, mostly in black and white. Thing is, early Laurel and Hardy was as far away from me as a child as Star Wars is from me now.”
